Decorating the Church through the Seasons.

  • Lent
  • Palm Sunday
  • Easter
  • Ordinary Time: Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring
  • Advent
  • Christmas

This committee works to meet and discuss what we want to do for each season - a brainstorming session, so to speak.  We plan the decorations, shop for and purchase what is needed and then meet again to decorate the Sanctuary, nave and gathering space (narthex).  The liturgical calendar determines when we need to decorate for the next season.

Currently, our committee is 13 member of both men and women.  In addition, we have many others who help specifically with Easter and Christmas decorations.  We are always looking for new members because everyone is not always available to decorate every season.

Our members are interested in a BEAUTIFUL CHURCH.  Talents range from suggestions, decorating interest, assisting, comments on color, flower arranging, fluffing (if you don't know what that is you will learn quickly), watering flowers, and cleaning up after we have decorated.

Decorating for the holidays typically takes about 2-3 hours.  Planning meetings are brief.  Members sometimes are looking for decorations or will coordinate a work bee at home or in the church.

You will get to know and work with great people who are dedicated and fun.  The satisfaction gained by decorating St. Mary Cathedral is well worth your time.

In 2009, Fr. James Bearss requested members for a new group called the Art & Environment.  This committee would be responsible for decorating the Church.  Our first assignment was Christmas.  The church previously only had 50 poinsettias at Christmas.  The committee immediately went to work and decorated with lighted trees and wreaths for the season.  The change appealed to the parishioners and we continued through the seasons.  The committee has great synergy and works hard to develop new ideas every year.

New members give us new perspective!
